Everyone at St Margarets Homecare are delighted to introduce our new charity partner, Adopt a Grandparent
Adopt a grandparent are a socially driven, charitable organisation committed to reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation on a global scale, by pairing volunteers with the elderly community.
Their aim is to bring people together, enabling them to forge meaningful and lasting relationships.
This incredible charity was founded by Shaleeza Hasham.
Shaleeza was born and raised on the grounds of her family’s care home. She started going into work with her mum from the age of 8 weeks – which made for a somewhat unusual, but certainly fun, upbringing. She spent a lot of her time with the residents, keeping them company – and all the while, having the pleasure of 15 adopted grandparents!
In October 2019, Shaleeza wanted to take action to abolish loneliness amongst the older and younger communities. The idea initially focused on inviting local people into care homes, encouraging them to ‘adopt’ a grandparent of their own and make regular visits to spend quality time together.
During the pandemic we, at St Margarets Homecare, witnessed first-hand the difficulties many seniors experienced with loneliness and isolation. Having come across Adopt a Grandparent very recently, we are very excited to be partnering with them!
The primary objectives that Adopt a Grandparent aim to achieve are:
• For the public benefit, UK and internationally, to provide support and relief to older and vulnerable persons in need; and
• To facilitate communication, relationships, and engagement services, using technology to develop intergenerational relationships and to combat loneliness and isolation amongst older and vulnerable people.
We introduce all of our clients to the charity so that they can benefit from the incredible free service on offer.
We will also promote them as much as we can on all our social media, to help spread the word.
